Falcutt, like Astwell, was until around a hundred years ago, in Wappenham parish, but both are now part of Helmdon. Since the late sixteenth century when the hamlets of Astwell and Falcutt were joined by the marriage of Jane Lovett, heiress of Thomas Lovett, to John Shirley, the lands have been closely associated, and are not now distinguishable. There is another similarity. Both are deserted villages.
Although almost certainly not as old as Astwell (Astwell alone is mentioned in the Domesday Book), we can tell from old documents and maps that there was once a village here. In 1491 there is a note of money given “To the reparation of the chapell of Fawcott (6s. 8d.)”, but in a map of 1500 the village is not marked so it seems that by this time it had been deserted. In 1535 the Rector of Wappenham was paid a sum of money for saying mass at Fawcott Chapel, but by 1550 that, too, had been demolished. As for other signs of settlement, on the 1750 map common fields are shown which must indicate that there had once been a village of some size, and a 1765 map names a Town Field, town being a term used to describe a village in early times.
Today Falcutt consists of Falcutt House and a small number of houses.
