From Jennie Smith (Facebook)

Be aware. My husband's van has been broken into tonight (Thursday 27 April) and tools stolen. It was still light and the van is on the drive right outside the house. We saw them and they held our front door shut so we couldn't get out. Please be vigilant. Has been reported to police.

There are three bicycles which have been stored at Helmdon Primary School since the last week of March. They were extracted from various flower beds/shrubs on and around the school grounds and have not yet been claimed. If the owners would like to retrieve them, please call at school when we are open and ask to speak to a member of school staff. We hope that the owners will come and see us soon as they are taking up useful space in our school.

Anybody want a 14 year old chestnut tree which (poor thing) has been growing in a small(ish) pot since the conker was planted? It's about 7 ft. high and quite healthy but is obviously small for its age because of how it has been grown. We've got nowhere to plant it and I'd like to see it growing somewhere more appropriate.

As you were!

It's not often that I'm pleased to be proved wrong (just ask my other half), but on this occassion I'm delighted to say that I have been.

It seems that vent through which I was dipping the tank, although set well in from the corner, was actually between the inner and outer skins and that 600ltrs of oil was indeed sitting safely within! So no theft after all.

Sincere thanks to those who have contacted me already and delighted to say that life in Helmdon continues untroubled as usual.

Appeal for information.

Did anyone notice any unusual activity at Rose House 75 Wappenham Rd yesterday 27/03/17 between 09:00 and 18:00?

We had 600 ltrs of oil delivered at 09:10 and by the time we got home it had gone!

Any information gratefully received.

Lovely to see The Bell back in action again and with Richard Phillips behind the bar! The pub looks wonderful - it's been totally refurbished so don't forget to drop in and make this place the important hub of the village that it always used to be. We'd be lost without it.

Welcome back Richard!

Storm Doris caused a large branch of a tree on the school field to come down yesterday. The tree is on the school field, next to the fence that runs along gravel path behind the toddler swings. It’s a major branch but still part attached to the tree and I am a bit concerned that if climbed, it may fall away altogether. I’ve already had to pull two boys off it after school today and although the school have told pupils to stay away there’s not much they can do outside school hours.
It’s been logged on Street Doctor – they’ve said they’ll come out within 5 days but meanwhile it is up to parents to keep children away from it.

Hi,
I am trying to find archive pictures of my Mum either at Helmdon Primary School in a group photo maybe or in Helmdon generally as a youngster or teenager or a group photo at the High School.
Freda Russell (nee Feasey) was born in Helmdon and went to school with Tony Smith, Geoff Gulliver so anyone from that era who either went to Helmdon or Brackley High School.
She lived in what was then known as 'The Jit' with Violet Feasey (nee Ayres) and Arthur Feasey, her sister Monica and brother Roland.
Would appreciate any information as all the pictures my Nan had disappeared when she died hence we don't have any pictures of Mum when she was young.
Could you please email me at chrissiesk@yahoo.co.uk.
Many thanks in anticipation.

We have been given a bunch of car keys that do not belong to us, found when the our car was valeted before going away on holiday.

The car is a Volkswagon make, serviced at Moreton Pinkney Garage. We have tried to trace the key without success.

If you go to hisory resources, then reminiscences, you will find an article by Marjorie Watson on The Grange, or Grange Farm, and there is a photo. If you click the search facility at the top of the website you will find more references. As for Green Row, which is most probably where grass and modern bungaows are today (now called The Green), if you put this into the search there is an interesting message. Please e-mail me with any other questions and let me know if you would like to go on our list of researchers. Good luck.

My great-grandfather, William Sansam, is listed on the 1851 Census living in Green Row with his Mother, Hannah, who is listed as a lacemaker. William was 16 at the time and listed as a labourer.
On the 1841 Census - they were living at The Grange and there is no occupation listed for Hannah - William was only 6.

Does anyone have any old photos of GreenRow and The Grange please

Christmas tree collection muddle!

I think many of us were going by the S. Northants Council recycling website:

"Residents are also reminded they can put their real Christmas trees out for collection next to, or ideally in, the green bin when collections resume during the week commencing Monday, 9 January, ensuring decorations are removed."

I don't think it was our fault if we put our trees out on that date as instructed - even if it was black bin collection on that day. The instructions were confusing and could have been better worded.

Just warning residents in Helmdon that my husband had his van broken into last night (5th January 2017)! Nothing was taken thank goodness - we live on Church Street.
