Happy New Year to all in Helmdon. We are still alive and kicking in St Austell. We have been here 9 years in August. The time has flown by. I still come on to the site and have a look around to see what is happening. I even have a look at the village via google maps to see what work has been done. Hope you all have a great 2012

I have been looking at the 1851 Helmdon census. I see that my GGGrandfather lived on Green Row. Does Green Row still exist? Family 97 lived in/on Chequers, family 98 started Green Row and my ancestor was family 109 on Green Row. Family 116 lived in/on The Grange. Was the census done in order? That is to say, could I start at the Chequers end of Green Row and go down 11 homes and find where Edward and Ann Young lived?

Getting my passport in order and hope to visit Helmdon in 2012.
Thank you!

I have recently been asked to take on the role of Tree Warden for Helmdon.
It seems there are relatively few responsibilities but lots of opportunities and the first one I would like to explore is getting some tree planting underway in the spring.

One possibility that has been suggested is a community orchard. Another opportunity would be to get a free tree planting pack ( between 100 and 400 trees) from the Woodland Trust to create a wood, coppice or hedge somewhere where the public can have access to them. This offer is part of the WT's plan to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee next year. But if we apply we will need to have a site or sites where we can put the trees - and we would need some volunteers.

- do you think tree planting would be a good idea?
-do you know of any possible sites which could be used?
- would you be able to help with the planting?

If you have any thoughts please email me on ward@btinternet.com

Thank you

Many thanks to all our friends for the lovely cards, flowers and gifts received on the occasion of the celebration of our sixty years together. We have been overwhelmed by your generosity and by so many kind words; and we greatly enjoyed seeing so many of you joining us in our garden last Sunday. And that includes the surprising and welcome presence of the sun after the night and morning rains! We were truly blessed by a wonderfully happy occasion.

Very sorry to read that my old cricketing pal Frank Allen passed on. Very pleased to see that the Wind abominations will not hurt the skyline any time soon!
