In Memory of Eddie Palmer
|
We are saddened to record the death of Eddie Palmer following a cerebral haemorrhage on 19 October, 2000. As curate to the Benefice and a greatly loved leader of music in our area, his funeral on 27 October was attended by many friends. The service was led by the Rural Dean, John Roberts, and attended by the Bishop of Brixworth and the Archdeacon of Northampton. Tributes and readings were given by his daughters, Alice and Lucy, and by Conrad Woolley, and prayers were read by his grandchildren. Former Head of Music at Magdalen College School, John Witchell, played the organ. The retiring collection raised in excess of £1,600 and will be used to fund organ scholarships in Eddie's name. |

Eddie's wife Sue, and their family, plan to catalogue his extensive music library and make it available to musicians in the locality. |
|
| A Thanksgiving Concert was held in memory of the Rev Eddie Palmer on Saturday 2 December at St Peter's Church, Brackley. The church was packed and the programme included performances from the Brackley Jubilee Choir, Banbury Choral Society and the Cherwell Orchestra. | |
| Eddie's wife, Sue Palmer, said that it was a lovely programme and that there had been a standing ovation at the end. | |
| February 2001 - Update | |
| The Eddie Palmer Organ Scholarship Fund has raised nearly £10,000 so far. Administered by The Royal College of Organists, it will fund one person per year in their efforts to play the organ. The Royal College will give preference to people living within 15 miles of Brackley. This year's Brackley Music Festival will be dedicated to Eddie's memory. |
