Under Fives
Can I commend this to all families with children of under school age.
We meet every week in the church, where there is a cup of coffee and
a drink of squash and a biscuit waiting for any mums/dads and children
who come - from 2.30pm on Thursdays. We usually have an activity of
some sort and finish with a prayer. On the 3rd Thursday of each month
(yes I know it's not always easy to remember when that is!!) we have
a service which lasts for about 15 minutes, when we have a couple
of songs or hymns, a story, prayer, remember the childrens' birthdays
etc. then there is the coffee and squash ! You are most welcome -
sometimes there's a crush (45 has been our largest number so far)
sometimes Audrey and I have a chat and no-one turns up !
Kitchen and Loo in Church
After much crossing of fingers (perhaps I should refrain from talking
about crossed legs) the proceedure of getting permission for installing
a loo and kitchen facilities in church is nearly there. As long as
no-one objects to the citation which is posted at the moment, the
faculty should soon be granted and work may proceed - that is when
we have the final detail plans and the money to do it. All contributions
gratefully received !
Church Choir
Are you aware of the quaility, strength and dedication of the church
choir? 25 strong, meeting regularly on a Thursday evening and singing
for services on a Sunday, with the ability to tackle quite demanding
pieces of music. We are at present working on some music for Good
Friday evening - which, with a few members from Syresham and Whitfield,
we shall be singing in Syresham church at 7.30pm on Good Friday, April
13th. It is called The Cross of Christ and is a compilation of hymns,
readings and anthems appropriate for the day. Chorales' by Bach and
Cruger, Mozart's 'Ave Verum', Goss's 'O Saviour of the World', and
hymns include 'Praise to the holiest','My song is love unknown' and
'When I survey the wondrous cross'. We have a wonderful group of sopranos,
and a good sound alto line, but we could do with one or two more tenors
and basses - is their anyone out there?
