Village Members pack the Reading Room
|
April 25th 2001.
Over 40 villagers packed in to the Reading Room on a typically
showery April night for the Helmdon Annual Parish Meeting.
This was the first year that the Parish Council had experimented
with holding the Annual Parish Meeting completely seperated
from the Annual Parish Council Meeting. The decision was taken
because the two forums have completely different aims - and
combining the two means members of the public have to sit
through all the Parish Coucil business before they can have
their say.
District Councillor Robin Digby addressed the meeting about
the latest developments at South Northants Council and PC
Fred Dawling gave a report on crime and traffic in Helmdon.
After the main presentations there was an Open Forum in which
villagers could voice their opinions, or ask questions of
any Parish Council member. Hot topics included the Central
Railway plans, the state of the village's roads and footpaths,
and traffic issues, particularly relating to the current work
on the A43.
The Helmdon web site was on display.

After the formal part of the meeting villagers were invited
to partake in some refreshment and chat to their Parish Council
members. The new Helmdon Village web site was also on show
and many villagers, some of whom do not have Internet access
at home, took the opportunity to see what life on the world
wide web is all about.
It is hoped the Annual Parish Meeting will continue in this
format for years to come. |
