Councillors Burns & Brookhouse show off the trophy

Residents of Helmdon have been celebrating winning the prestigious "Village of the Year" Competition, which is sponsored by Calor Gas and organised by Northamptonshire ACRE.

The village became involved in this years competition when the Parish Council put in an entry for the competition.

The competition is judged on various categories, including the societies and clubs running in the village, the amenities available, the church and its surroundings and the local schools.

Helmdon also picked up the County award in 1996 and 1999.

Helmdon now go on to compete in the Regional Competition in 2003.

Chairman of Helmdon Parish Council, Peter Burns, said: "We entered on the basis of it's a nice place and that it's a good village to live in.

"The people of Helmdon are very proud to win and award like that. It's a village achievement."
