Awards Scooped
Helmdon has just picked up an award for its outstanding website
and came second overall in the Northants Calor Village of
the Year competition.
Parish council chairman Peter Burns accepted the awards on
behalf of the village at an awards ceremony held at the Northamptonshire
ACRE Hunsbury Hill Centre in Northampton on Wednesday, July
27.
Picking up the Canon Dunn Memorial Bowl for information and
communication technology, he said "This is a good day
for Helmdon, a lot of effort went in to this year's competition
and the awards are a credit to everyone involved."
The category assesses each village's use of websites, email
and other forms of electronic media to enhance community life
and improve communication.
Helmdon will now go on to represent Northants in the regional
ICT category, results of which will be announced at a special
London awards dinner in December.
Webmaster Danny Moody said: "I am delighted to win this
award and I hope we represent Northamptonshire well at regional
level.
"This isn't just about the website, the village primary
school is very switched on regarding ICT and the majority
of Helmdon residents have Internet access and use e-mail".
Helmdon was a previous winner of the Northants Village of
the Year title in 1996, 1999 and 2002.
