Helmdon End Up Unbeaten

Helmdon became the first team for 35 years to go through the South Northants Cricket League season undefeated when they beat Long Buckby by eight wickets in their final league match of the season on Saturday.

Helmdon had already clinched the Division 1 title and taken their second championship in successive seasons. The only blemish on their record was made by the weather, causing the cancellation of one game, their final record 17 wins from 18 games.

Long Buckby batted first and openers Wykes (33) and Satsangi (46) made 87 before being parted. But then Howard Jessett took a hand with 4-37 as they were held to 146-8 in their 40 overs.

Helmdon made light of the task. Peter Somerton kept things going throughout with an undefeated 63, and fellow opener John Lawrence (24) helped in a stand of 84. Pete Spark and Ollie Taylor helped towards a resounding win.
