A year in the life of a village
A FILM depicting life in a south Northants
village during 2000 has been produced.
The Helmdon branch of the Workers’ Education
Association produced the film as a lasting way of preserving
the vitality and spirit of a Northants village special to
the people that live there.
The local studies group made the two-hour
film, which looks at everything that happens in the village
during a year, to mark the millennium.
Audrey Harwood, secretary of the Helmdon
WEA, said "We have made the film so that the people
in perhaps 100 years’ time will be able to view the video
disc and read the typescript we have made, to understand
what made a village tick around the year 2000.
Willy Watson, who made the film, is by
profession a farmer and this is his first venture into film
making. He was supported in his efforts all the way by members
of the group; Audrey Harwood, Val and Stewart Moir, Judy
Cairns, Jean Spendlove, Liz Woolley and Cec Harold.
"It has all been tremendous fun with
a very worthwhile result, a watchable, enjoyable film that
has the added serious purpose of being a bit of village
local history preserved for the future."
Copies of the film and transcript are being
given to the Northampton Record Office, parish council and
the parish church, and it will be made available to villagers
and newcomers.
