Technology is at pupils' fingertips
Youngsters at a village primary school
are finally able to get to grips with the latest educational
technology.
Pupils at Helmdon Primary School used to
struggle in Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
lessons because the school only had two computers capable
of running the software needed for the course curriculum.
But following a successful appeal, a special
ICT suite, compete with ten state-of- the-art Internet-linked
PCs, has been created at the 120 pupil school.
The suite was originally expected to cost
around £30,000, but so many people donated their time and
labour, the final cost came down to just £10,000.
And pupils were able to use it for the
first time on Thursday, following an official opening on
Wednesday evening.
Head teacher Sue Blackburn said "The children
think it's brilliant and from a teaching point of view it
is so much better".
Mrs Blackburn said teachers were also using
the suite outside of school hours to plan their lessons
and that, in time, the facility could be available for use
by villagers.
