Flying the flag for charity
|
The Flag Fund has now closed having reached
its target of £1,000!!
The proceeds have been used to purchase replacement cookers for
the Reading Room - a much needed upgrade that will greatly improve
the catering facilities available in the Reading Room for village
groups and private parties.
The Flag Fund was the brainchild and work of Lyndsey Leeden Glassett
and many of you will have seen the flags flying in the front garden
of Leeden Tye in Church Street with a white board (kindly donated
by the school) outside, proclaiming some event; a birthday, an
anniversary, congratulations or any similar occasion, or just
to say "thank you" or "well done" to someone special.
Lyndsey says "The domestic facilities in the Reading Room
which had served us for so long had become totally inadequate
and needed replacing with the utmost urgency. Grateful thanks
are due to all those who contributed in any way to reach this
magnificent sum of money."
Flag flyers were given the choice of Union Jack, St. George's,
the Tibetan Flag (a multicoloured, lion emblem) or Skull and Crossbones
(much favoured by the young!).
The Fund was also supported by a very successful raffle, which
was generously organised by Doreen Brock and Peggy Archer at the
Luncheon Club Christmas Lunch in December 2001. Pantomime tickets,
donated by Alan and Peggy Ryalls, were also raffled and and all
the proceeds went to boost the Flag Fund as forty one members
sat down to full traditional fare.
