The Club has been going for just over a year now and is going from strength to strength. At the time of writing we have over forty members (male and female, young and not so young!) but ‘visitors’ are also very welcome and often pop in to a meeting or a talk that particularly takes their fancy. Meetings are relaxed and a great chance to meet up and socialise with other gardeners.
2009 saw many fun evenings where Club members entertained us with their gardening wit and wisdom, several professional speakers fascinated us with subjects covering the broader aspects of horticulture and the countryside, we had a not-too-serious gardening competition, a garden party, two local visits, a social night in the Bell and we ended the year on a far from sober night where we attempted to make Christmas garlands, orange pomanders and answer a tricky plant quiz with two or three large glasses of mulled wine on board!
This is a hands-on Club where we don’t just sit back and listen to lectures every month but where we try to get involved in every aspect of gardening and village life. Our programme for 2010 looks particularly interesting so please feel free to come along to any meeting. Non-members are most welcome and pay £2 on the door; yearly membership is just £15 p.a. – with discounts at local garden centers. Our programme is constantly updated and can be found on the Helmdon website. Just come to a meeting and see what you think!
