CKERS is a youth club originally organised jointly by St Mary Magdalene Church and the Baptist Chapel, although Phil Drage, who was instrumental in setting up the venture in Helmdon, has moved on to run a similar youth group at the Weston Community Project.
The group has been successfully running since 2001 and it continues to be very popular. We meet on a Sunday evening once a fortnight at St Mary Magdalene Church from 6.30 pm. We cater for youngsters from school year 5 onwards and we do a wide variety of activities, such as games, table tennis, air hockey, challenges and crafts with them. We have had a hike through Whistley Wood, a chocoholic evening, a football tournament, a cinema trip, made models from rubbish and a beetle drive - to name but a few of our events.
We have been fortunate to have had lots of support from people in the village happy to share their talents with us on a Sunday evening. Any offers of ideas and help are always welcomed.
Anyone interested in joining us please come along on a Sunday evening and see us.
